LHV

The LHV exemption: what it allows

An LHV (longer and heavier vehicle combination, in Dutch LZV) is a towing vehicle, possibly a middle vehicle and a rear vehicle. Each vehicle meets the legal dimensions on its own, but together they are too long or too heavy. That is why an exemption from the RDW is required.

The annual LHV exemption

With the annual exemption you drive a combination of at most 25.25 m and 60,000 kg for one year. The exemption is issued on the towing vehicle. After a year you apply again.

Vehicle and driver

Each vehicle in the combination must meet the legal dimensions and weights on its own and have an LHV entry in the vehicle register; a foreign vehicle needs an LHV certificate. The driver needs a CCV certificate, foreign drivers included.

Only on the LHV network

You may only drive on the roads that are green in the RDW Digital Exemptions Road Map when you choose LHV there. Outside it you need a one-off LHV exemption, which you can only request with a form. Truckroute plans an LHV trip only on the network the RDW publishes in the DWO.

Applying

You apply to the RDW with a customer number, online with a Crosweb certificate or with a form. The RDW decides within 5 working days. The current fees are listed by the RDW.

Frequently asked questions

May I carry an indivisible load with an LHV?

The LHV exemption is not for abnormal loads: that requires a separate RDW exemption. In Truckroute, choose abnormal load instead.
