Route for a mobile crane
A mobile crane drives to the job itself, but is often heavier than the 50,000 kg of a normal truck. That is why it needs an RDW exemption and may only use roads that carry the weight.
Self-propelled machine
The RDW calls a commercial vehicle that is mainly equipped for work other than transport a self-propelled machine (rijdend werktuig); a mobile crane is one. The annual exemption is issued on the crane itself. The length comes from the vehicle register, the weight is the number of axles times 12,000 kg, up to 100,000 kg. If the crane is heavier than 100,000 kg, only a one-off exemption is possible.
Only on green roads
An annual exemption only applies on the roads that are green in the Digital Exemptions Road Map when you enter the dimensions and weight of the crane there. If the route is not completely green, you apply for a one-off exemption for that one route. Above 50,000 kg you show that the vehicle can carry the weight.
How to plan the trip
Under Dimensions and weight, choose abnormal load and enter the height, width, length and weight of the crane. Truckroute then plans only over roads where the RDW can grant an exemption for those dimensions, up to 100 tonnes. The exemption and the DWO remain binding.
Frequently asked questions
How much may a crane with five axles weigh?
For the annual exemption for a self-propelled machine the RDW uses the number of axles times 12,000 kg: with five axles 60,000 kg, and never more than 100,000 kg. The exemption itself prevails.
