Low-emission zones, charges and tolls for coaches
Different zones and charges apply to a bus than to a truck. Truckroute uses the number plate to find which rules apply to your bus.
Low-emission zones for buses
Amsterdam, Utrecht, The Hague and Eindhoven have a low-emission zone for buses, for coaches and public transport buses. Only diesel buses of at least emission class 6 may enter. Truckroute checks every low-emission zone on the route against the emission class of your bus from the number plate; on the map the Buses and coaches layer shows only the zones that apply to a bus.
Zero-emission zones: not now, possible from 2029
The zero-emission zones currently apply only to vans and trucks; a coach may enter. The national government wants to allow municipalities to introduce a zero-emission zone for new buses from 1 January 2029. Amsterdam, Utrecht, The Hague and Eindhoven intend to do so; the low-emission zone for buses then lapses. As soon as a municipality introduces such a zone, it is added to Truckroute.
Charges and tolls
The Dutch truck charge only applies to trucks (N2 and N3), not to a bus. In Germany buses are exempt from the Maut, and the Belgian kilometre charge does not apply to buses. Truckroute does calculate a toll road or toll tunnel, such as the Westerschelde Tunnel or the Liefkenshoek Tunnel, with the height and length of your bus.
Frequently asked questions
May an electric coach enter everywhere?
A zero-emission bus meets the low-emission zones for buses. Other signs, such as C7a or a height limit, also apply to an electric bus.
